Buy Tales of Earthsea on DVD!
Alright! Just found out that Studio Ghibli's latest animated film based on the amazing Earthsea novels by Ursula le Guinn will be released on DVD on the fourth of July in Japan with both an English and Japanese audio track option as well as English and Japanese subtitles! This regular edition can be preordered HERE.
As usual with Japanese DVDs and moreso anime releases, there will be a super deluxe DVD release for double the price with four DVDs featuring audio tracks in Japanese, Mandarin, Cantonese, English, Korean and French (what, no Spanish?) and subtitles in French, Simplified Chinese, Korean, Japanese, English and Traditional Chinese. This huge edition can be ordered HERE.
I was beginning to wonder if this film would ever be released as apparently there were licensing issues in the US over the English language version. Normally that wouldn't be a problem for a Japanese DVD release, but Ghibli releases all of their movies on bilingual DVDs in Japan. Very unusual, but very appreciated.
I didn't get around to seeing this film in it's theatrical release but Ghibli is Ghibli (even if it is a different director for this film than the previous hits) and it would be nice to have it in my collection.
Will let you know what I think in a few months!

Ghibli's Earthsea Worst of 2006?
I havn't seen Earthsea yet but really want to as I read the books when I was young given to me by my Pam and enjoyed her passion for them. I have read though that Ursela Le Guinn didn't like the film at all and was very disappointed that the wrong Miyazaki directed the film (the guy that did this film was the brother of the famous one who made Mononoke and Spirited Away).
A good example of how people in Japan get promoted on age or family connections and not through any ability at all. This guy was an architect for crying out loud! Why the hell was he allowed to direct a Ghibli movie???
I heard his brother wasn't too happy about it either.
Shukan Bunshun has announced the recipients of the 2007 Bunshun Raspberry Awards. The awards recognize the worst of Japanese cinema in 2006, in the same manner that the Golden Raspberry Awards recognize the worth of North American cinema every year.

Welcome. My name's Brad and I'm about to start my fifth year in Tokyo, Japan though lately I've found that that defines me as badly as saying I'm from Sydney, Australia.
